As the new school year approaches, many children are getting ready to go back to the traditional school year. Preparing for a new school year online is a major shift for many students, especially if they didn’t participate in online schooling last semester. Below are a few tips for going back to school with less stress.
Look at Your District Plan
The first step towards helping your child feel confident is taking a look at your district’s plan for resuming school. Some districts are already posting new schedules and new online plans for the new year. If you have older children, encourage them to look over those plans. If your children are younger, talk over what the changes might mean for your family.
Look at Online Tools
If you’re not already familiar with online tools, it’s time to start looking at them. Figure out what your district is going to be using and allow your children to practice with the software if possible. This is a great time to start getting younger kids used to the basics of using the computer, especially if they’re not too familiar with a typical keyboard layout.
Talk About Fears
Finally, talk to your child about the fears he or she may have about going to school online. Your child might have been out of school for four months at this point, so some trepidation is only natural. Don’t just talk about going online – talk about social situations, switching schools, and any other issues that might have come up during the summer.
